The Effects of Mercury Retrograde
Most of us are aware of how the Moon affects us in our daily lives, and how the Moon affects us in astrology.
In our daily lives, we know that people act differently during a full Moon. There are more crimes committed,
more accidents, and more emergency room visits. The word lunatic is actually derived from the Latin word for
Moon, Luna. In Astrology, the Moon is considered one of the planets. It controls our emotions, instincts, how
we feel about things, and how our feelings affect others.
All the planets in our solar system exert an influence in our lives, but there is one little planet in our
solar system which exerts a specific influence in our lives. That planet is Mercury. Mercury is the planet
of communication, and its influence affects communication, perception, travel, appointments, as well as
communication devices of all kinds. Several times a year this little planet goes into retrograde motion.
The planets usually move East to West across the sky, however, when a planet goes into retrograde motion,
it will appear to reverse direction and to move West to East. The planet does not actually move backwards,
but due to the earth's quicker orbit around the Sun, the Earth will actually pass Mercury and when this
occurs, it causes Mercury to appear to move backwards for a short time with respect to the Zodiac. It is
similar to when you pass a slower moving car on the highway. The other car appears to move backwards, but
in actuality you are both still moving forwards. However, you are moving forwards at a greater speed.
When the apparent motion of the planet returns to an East to West motion, the planet is considered to
have gone direct. All the planets in our solar system appear to have retrograde motion at some point in
time, except for the Sun and Moon. Mercury will go retrograde on March 20th, 2005, and will
remain retrograde until it goes direct on April 12th, 2005.
In astrology, when a planet is retrograde, it exerts a negative influence in the areas of our lives it rules.
As I mentioned before, Mercury is the planet of communication, so when Mercury is retrograde, it will affect
the ways in which we communicate with each other. People will not understand what someone else is trying to
say to them, people will miss appointments, or if they make an appointment while Mercury is retrograde they
will not be able to keep it. Mercury not only affects our communication, it affects our methods of communication,
so you might find that you have problems with your computer, your cell phone, your television, or other electronic
equipment. Also if you sign contracts while Mercury is retrograde, you may find out that you need to revise them
at a latter date.
Mercury being retrograde is not all doom, gloom, and electronic chaos. As I have mentioned before, Mercury is the
planet of communication. While it is not necessarily a good time to communicate with other people, it is a good
time to communicate with your self. This is a good time to see a therapist, counselor, psychic, or astrologer.
It is a very good time to turn within yourself, and to resolve many of the deeper personal thoughts that have
been affecting your life. It is also a wonderful time to study something, because it is a time of learning at the
deepest levels. It is a time to go out and enjoy life, and to hang out with your family, and friends, and just have some fun.
So be aware of this upcoming event of Mercury retrograde, and see how it affects your life. If you keep in mind
how it might affect your life you can find ways to make Mercury retrograde work for you instead of against you.
